Play "open" G with the left hand on the barrel first without the complications of both hands on the keys. Open G can squeak up to high D if the tongue is too low. Once G is mastered, try adding fingers for E.

Getting to low Bb as soon as possible is a good idea. Why? Both hands help create stability. Notice the right hand position and make sure the index finger is not "supporting" the weight of clarinet underneath the trill keys.
